#543 First Five Mac Apps, Auphonic Leveler, Megan Morrone on Kids and Tech

NosillaCast News Improvement – Part Two (because I didn’t fix it right the first time). Third time’s a charm hopefully as I got yet another replacement MacBook, and I walk through the first apps I load on a new Mac. Check the blog post for all the links to what I describe. Then learn the top five apps YOU would load on a new Mac from a survey I conducted. Learn all about the famous Levelator and how I had to leave it for my new love, Auphonic Leveler to make my audio as good as it can be. Bob Correa gives us his Clarify tutorial on how to add Extensions to Apple Photos: bobbyco.clarify-it.com. In Chit Chat Across the Pond we’re joined by Megan Morrone, host of many shows on the TWiT Network including iFive for the iPhone, iOS Today and Tech News 2Night. In this discussion she explains to me where kids and technology are today, and shares her perspective on how to balance parenting with technology.

Clarify

This week Bob Correa posted something awesome in our podfeet.com/googleplus community. He created a tutorial for us on how to enable the new extensions feature in Apple Photos! This is awesome on so many levels. First of all, this is the feature I’m MOST looking forward to in El Capitan. Extensions in Photos means we can get back the functionality we lost when Apple abandoned Aperture. We can buy extensions from third parties that let us do non-destructive editing with cool tools. I had not yet figured out how to make these “go” so when Bob posted his tutorial I was thrilled.

And of course it made me doubly happy that he used my favorite tool, Clarify to do create his tutorial! He took some screenshots with Clarify, dropped in an arrow here, a box there, and then a bit of text to explain the steps. It’s only 5 steps and it perfectly illustrates how to get Extensions in Photos. When he was done, he hit the publish to Clarify button and it created a web-based version for free at bobbyco.clarify-it.com. I love it when I see you guys create tutorials so if you want to have yours featured here, send it on over!

And if you don’t have Clarify yet, go to clarify-it.com and download the free trial for Mac or Windows.
