Updating my report on the Western Digitial Ethernet Connected Hard Drive (this is second try as first didn't seem to "take")

The drive SEEMS to go to sleep and not awaken. Its icon appears on my Macs, but it might as well not be there.

I've become familiar with the power input plug. Pull it, insert it, and the drive reboots. In about three minutes, it is ready to work.

There are lots of variables, so I'm not sure if this is a problem with the drive software, my network, etc.

I can't speak for Toshiba computers, but my girlfriend has had two DISASTROUS experiences with HP laptops-- so, I just wanted to throw in my two cents as you seemed to have a little more faith in the likes of Dell and HP. I can speak for my girlfriend's horrendous experience with HP because I am the one who contacted customer service. Her first notebook was a dv2100 and it started overheating and shutting down. After a heated (hah) battle with HP (absolutely worst customer service I have ever experienced) and waiting for a month while her notebook was in repair, they replaced it with a new dv2500 notebook because they LOST the first one during the repair process. A year and a half later she started experiencing the SAME overheating and shutting down of the first computer. In addition, both computers had displays that became very loose and the overall build quality and durability of the plastic-y casing was deplorable. They again replaced the notebook and we ended up selling the replacement rather than dealing with another HP. We know have two Macbooks. Why?
Here's the summarized version:
1) Two HP notebooks that broke down after less than 2 years
2) HP customer service is THE WORST. Know how you immediately talk to an Apple Rep who will actually try to solve your problem? HP customer service is a web of inefficiency and frustration. Just this reason alone can be a reason not to buy an HP.
3) Yes, we saved money with the HP she bought and yes we got 2 new computers for free. I spent about two weeks of my life on the phone with HP customer service and that alone justifies paying $400 more for a Mac.
Sorry for the length of this, but I could not discourage someone more strongly from buying an HP notebook-- I cannot speak for their desktops. It is not worth the savings!!!

You people in the USA think you pay Apple tax- sheesh- try being in the UK! And I have to use Windoze at work and I will do ANYTHING to do things on my MacBook because it's gorgeous! Nothing in the WORLD could EVER get me to buy any PC laptop EVER. A colleague of mine has a Sony Vaio but he runs LInux on it because he admitted he's too cheap to buy a Mac! Sad git!!!! PS Having started to shoot RAW I have given in and bought Aperture 2 for my MacBook - better be good!
