Order of launching
1 – Camtwist: set to pipe only IRC to Camtwist
2 – Audio Hijack Pro: set to pipe Microphone + GarageBand into Soundflower (2ch). this may not be necessary with Ustream Producer Pro, might be able to "layer" both mics in the tool
3 – GarageBand
4 – Ustream Producer Pro
CamTwist Display Settings for IRC
Experimented before deciding on the following settings:
x position: 0, y position: 0.9 (slides it up just enough to clear the lower third. if you choose a bigger lower third, may have to increase this value)
Width 1 (means full width)
Height: 0.9
Margin: 0, Justify Nicks: no (which means the margin setting doesn’t matter)
Font: Century Gothic Bold – chose this one after much experimentation. Ustream squishes the font horizontall, this wide font was clearest we could find
Font size: 14
Bigger is clearer but you hit a limit on how much text will show
Chat color: Green on a black background with a black shadow color.
These options were also optimized for clarity during broadcast, and no color shift in compressed recorded file.
Also liked this color for the retro VT100 look
Colored Nicks: No – this would be cool to tell people apart but it doesn’t show the same color for the same person each time

Audio Hijack Pro – GarageBand & Blue Icicle
Set up Audio Hijack Pro to Hijack GarageBand. Full instructions on Audio Hijack Pro setup are available in another tutorial.
Ustream Producer Pro
Log into Ustream Producer Pro.
Launch Desktop Presenter
This was the least intuitive step in setting up Ustream Producer Pro. This is actually a separate application that gets launched to allow you to pipe in your desktop.
Select Desktop Region
In theory you can flip sources between your connected displays, and then select screen region from full screen to a smaller selection. I say in theory because there’s a bug that makes it impoossible to select a region unless that display is the primary display. For example, as shown above I’ve chosen the LED Cinema Display but if I try the Change Region button, it only allows me to select a region on my primary display, which is my MacBook Pro display.
So before selecting a region, make sure that your primary display is set to the monitor where you’ll have the content you wish to broadcast on Ustream Producer Pro. You will have to quit the Desktop Presenter application and re-open if you change your primary display.
Note: you must leave Desktop Presenter running throughout your show.
Easier Way to View Audio and Video Options
Look for the little dot on the left side of the lower panel. If you drag that to the right, the different layers will show so you can flip between them. In this case I’ve chosen the audio layer, and I can now select my microphone to be heard on the broadcast (Blue Icicle). I’m showing this now so you can see how to flip between the options of Title, Normal and Audio, but we’ll have to repeat the audio selection step right before we broadcast.
Video 3-Up
I chose to use a 3-up that contains my desktop showing GarageBand, video of me, and then the live chat. To do this create a "new shot" by right clicking on the Blank Shot and selecting Add Shot.
Video Setup
I selected the format "3 Left Right". In my setup I want my desktopin position A, video of me in position B, and the live chat coming from CamTwist in position C. To reproduce this:
1 – click on A
2 – click on the screen that shows your desktop (called http:// for some reason)
3 – Click on B
4 – Click on Display iSight
5 – Click on C
6 – Click on CamTwist
Add Lower Third
Since we have this $200 product, let’s take it to a more professional look and feel and add a a title for the lower third.
1 – Click to turn on the Title
2 – Type in the text you want to have showing. You can change formatting on the right of those fields, justification, font and size, plus color
3 – choose the styling of your lower third. I chose Steel Blue because it wasn’t very tall and seemed less distracting than other options
At this point I would go to the menu bar and select File, Save to save all of these configurations. You won’t have to repeat these steps (except it seems you have to reselect your microphone each time.
Select Microphone (again)
Click on Audio on the left side, and then select your microphone.
Mute Yourself
For some reason once you get everything going, your own voice will start coming back at you, which will drive you bonkers. Click on the very dim grey headphones on the right under the volume meter to mute your own voice. This will not mute your voice for your viewers.
Broadcasting and Saving
Finally time to Broadcast! Click the Broadcast button, and when you’re ready, hit the Record to Server button if you want your recording saved on Ustream’s servers in your channel. When you’re done recording, don’t forget to hit that button again to save your show out with an appropriate title, description and tags.
