This short tutorial shows the steps to create a hyperlink from one page to another using an image as the target to link to. This can be expanded beyond images to other types of media and text.
Page Showing Text Where We’ll Create the Link
I’m not 100% sure but using text in an inserted text box doesn’t seem to work for me, but using text in one of the standard page layouts does work.
Page With an Image
Select the Image
and click the Inspector button.
Click the Gear Tab
Click Title
Oddly you have to add a title in order to add a label, and only labeled items can be linked to.
Choose a Label
I chose Image, but I’m not sure it really matters, they simply have to have a label.
Enter Text in Title
The text you use for the title will show up when you’re looking for the image to which you’re going to link.
Select the Text
- Go to the page where the text link needs to be, and select it.
- Click the Hyperlink button and the Hyperlink tab
Enable the Hyperlink
- Click the Checkbox to Enable the hyperlink
- You will then see the list of items to which you can link. Oddly I left Link To: set to Figure but it still sees my Image in the list. I think the options there may be to filter down in case you’ve declared a lot of images and figures.
- Make sure the checkbox is UNchecked for "make all hyperlinks inactive". This is a very handy checkbox for later, whenever you want to edit a hyperlink you can’t touch it unless you inactivate all hyperlinks.
You should now be able to tap on your link in Preview on iPad and have it move to the image you selected.
