{"id":5623,"date":"2014-09-28T14:34:35","date_gmt":"2014-09-28T21:34:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.podfeet.com\/blog\/?page_id=5623"},"modified":"2014-09-28T14:39:48","modified_gmt":"2014-09-28T21:39:48","slug":"back-up-drobo-to-drobo","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.podfeet.com\/blog\/tutorials-5\/back-up-drobo-to-drobo\/","title":{"rendered":"How to Back Up from One Drobo to Another"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"clarify-article-content\">\n<div class=\"clarify-article-description\">\n<p>Problem to be solved:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Back up one Drobo to another using a Mac that is normally asleep when the scheduled backups need to be run.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Constraints:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>One Mac has to control the backups. <\/li>\n<li>Our desire is that the Mac needs to be able to wake up to perform its duties.\n<ul>\n<li>These instructions assume you have an Airport router or at least one AppleTV which will enable the Mac to be awakened by the application: <a href=\"http:\/\/support.apple.com\/kb\/ht3774\" target=\"_blank\">http:\/\/support.apple.com\/kb\/ht3774<\/a> <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>We&#8217;ll be using Chronosync from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.econtechnologies.com\/\">http:\/\/www.econtechnologies.com\/<\/a>\n<ul>\n<li>Full version of Chronosync for $40 will support waking up the Mac to run the backups<\/li>\n<li>If you don&#8217;t need to wake your Macs up for the scheduled backups, you may be able to get buy with Chronosync Express for $30 from the <a href=\"https:\/\/itunes.apple.com\/us\/app\/chronosync-express\/id904801687?mt=12\" target=\"_blank\">Mac App Store<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<div class=\"clarify-article-content\">\n<div class=\"clarify-steps-container\">\n<div id=\"clarify-step-1\" class=\"clarify-step-container\">\n<h4 class=\"clarify-step-title\">1. Log Into Drobos <\/h4>\n<div class=\"clarify-step-instructions\">\n<p>You need to authenticate to both of the Drobos in the Finder as well. For some reason this window pops up from time to time, even if keychain is checked, but it doesn&#8217;t seem to disturb anything if it does.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"clarify-step-image-wrapper\">\n<div class=\"clarify-step-image-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.podfeet.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/wpid5612-log-into-drobos-.png\" width=\"442\" height=\"306\" class=\"clarify-step-image\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"clarify-clear\"><\/div>\n<div id=\"clarify-step-8\" class=\"clarify-step-container\">\n<h4 class=\"clarify-step-title\">3. Launch Chronosync<\/h4>\n<div class=\"clarify-step-instructions\">\n<p>You&#8217;ll want to create a new synchronizer document for every share you need to back up. In my case we have several shares, but you may only have one.<\/p>\n<p>Create a new synchronizer document.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"clarify-step-image-wrapper\">\n<div class=\"clarify-step-image-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.podfeet.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/launch-chronosync.png\" width=\"512\" height=\"343\" class=\"clarify-step-image\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"clarify-sub-steps-container\">\n<div id=\"clarify-step-9\" class=\"clarify-sub-step-container\">\n<h5 class=\"clarify-step-title\">3.1 ChronoSync &#8211; &nbsp;Set Up New Synchronizer Document<\/h5>\n<div class=\"clarify-step-instructions\">\n<p>I named each of my documents the same names as the share they were going to manage.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"clarify-step-image-wrapper\">\n<div class=\"clarify-step-image-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.podfeet.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/chronosync-set-up-new-synchronizer-document.png\" width=\"407\" height=\"202\" class=\"clarify-step-image\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"clarify-clear\"><\/div>\n<div id=\"clarify-step-2\" class=\"clarify-sub-step-container\">\n<h5 class=\"clarify-step-title\">3.2 Drag the Source of the data to the Left Target<\/h5>\n<div class=\"clarify-step-instructions\">\n<p>In this example I&#8217;ve dragged the share Financial into the Left Target area. This reveals another option of what to do when deleting files. I&#8217;m choosing to delete immediately.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"clarify-step-image-wrapper\">\n<div class=\"clarify-step-image-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.podfeet.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/synchronizing-deletions.png\" width=\"507\" height=\"169\" class=\"clarify-step-image\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"clarify-clear\"><\/div>\n<div id=\"clarify-step-13\" class=\"clarify-sub-step-container\">\n<h5 class=\"clarify-step-title\">3.6 Synchronize<\/h5>\n<div class=\"clarify-step-instructions\">\n<p>Tap the synchronize button to ensure you have the expected syncrhonization. &nbsp;Once you&#8217;re sure you&#8217;re correctly configured, tap on Add to Schedule.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"clarify-step-image-wrapper\">\n<div class=\"clarify-step-image-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.podfeet.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/09\/synchronize.png\" width=\"512\" height=\"281\" class=\"clarify-step-image\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"clarify-clear\"><\/div>\n<div id=\"clarify-step-14\" class=\"clarify-sub-step-container\">\n<h5 class=\"clarify-step-title\">3.7 Schedule<\/h5>\n<div class=\"clarify-step-instructions\">\n<p>Choose your schedule choices and tap Save.<\/p>\n<p>Note: If you open this window again, it will revert to what you see below. If you save again, you&#8217;ve saved a SECOND scheduled event. In here you can see the schedules you&#8217;ve set up.
