He spent some time coming up with some options for good, better, and best image quality too. &nbsp;After he posted this, someone else pointed out that instead of editing the System Library files, you could accomplish the same thing using the ColorSync utility. &nbsp;While using the ColorSync Utility is great for creating the modified filters, many have reported that you still have to move the filters into the System level Library to make them take.<\/p>\n<p>Basic outline of the steps will be:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Show how the default Reduce File Size option is accessed in Preview<\/li>\n<li>Use ColorSync Utility to create good, better and best filters<\/li>\n<li>Copy the newly created filters into the System level Library<\/li>\n<li>Verify that the new filters are available in Preview<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>One caution &#8211; when you reinstall or upgrade your operating system, these filters will be removed, so keep a copy of this tutorial and a copy of your filters as well so you can put them back for later use.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<div class=\"clarify-article-content\">\n<div class=\"clarify-steps-container\">\n<div id=\"clarify-step-2\" class=\"clarify-step-container\">\n<h3 class=\"clarify-step-title\">1. Moving Filters to Your System-level Library<\/h3>\n<div class=\"clarify-sub-steps-container\">\n<div id=\"clarify-step-11\" class=\"clarify-sub-step-container\">\n<h4 class=\"clarify-step-title\">3.1 Navigate to your User Library<\/h4>\n<div class=\"clarify-step-instructions\">\n<p>In the Finder, hold down the Option key and click on Go. &nbsp;The Option key reveals the Library folder allowing you to select it.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"clarify-step-image-wrapper\">\n<div class=\"clarify-step-image-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.podfeet.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/navigate-to-your-user-library.png\" width=\"472\" height=\"457\" class=\"clarify-step-image\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"clarify-clear\"><\/div>\n<div id=\"clarify-step-12\" class=\"clarify-sub-step-container\">\n<h4 class=\"clarify-step-title\">3.2 Navigate to the Filters folder<\/h4>\n<div class=\"clarify-step-instructions\">\n<p>Inside your user Library you should now see a Filters folder with your three new filters. This little trick lets you quickly navigate to your hard disk (mine is called Piggy, yours may be cleverly named or simply be called Macintosh HD).<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"clarify-step-image-wrapper\">\n<div class=\"clarify-step-image-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.podfeet.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/02\/now-we-re-going-to-navigate-to-the-system-level-library.png\" width=\"306\" height=\"164\" class=\"clarify-step-image\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div class=\"clarify-clear\"><\/div>\n<div id=\"clarify-step-15\" class=\"clarify-sub-step-container\">\n<h4 class=\"clarify-step-title\">3.5 Navigate to \/System\/Library\/Filters<\/h4>\n<div class=\"clarify-step-instructions\">\n<p>In El Capitan, they instituted System Integrity Protection (SIP) which disallows messing around in the System level library. &nbsp;<br \/>If you&#8217;re using Yosemite or earlier, paste your new filters into the \/System\/Library\/Filters as shown below.<\/p>\n<p>If you&#8217;re using El Capitan, Apple instituted System Integrity Protection (SIP) which disallows messing around in the System level library, so instead we want to drop them into \/Library\/Filters as shown below.
