In this episode you’ll hear the session I taught on how to create an audio podcast using the Mac. In this talk I walk through all of the tools I use, and I explain how each piece fits together to create the show. I give a bit of advice on microphones and recording software, I explain how to compress the files, and how to turn the audio recording actually into a Podcast feed. \nToday is Sunday October 18th, 2009 and this is show number 228.<\/p>\n

This week was a whirlwind with Steve and my trip to Blogworld and New Media Expo<\/a>. We had a fantastic trip, mostly because of the quality time we got to spend with our podcasting homies. The downside of having so many good friends at the show was that we didn’t get to meet a lot of new people like we usually do. If you see a table full of your friends you’re less likely to go make new friends. I wouldn’t give up for the world the time with Victor Cajaio, Don McAllister, Andy McCaskey, John Chambers, George Starcher, Dave Hamilton, John F Braun, Jean MacDonald, Donald Burr, Chuck Joiner, David Sparks, Chris Christianson and especially Louis Trepani who wins the award for the hardest way to get to Blogworld (21 hours to get from New York to Vegas). We DID manage to meet a whole new Belgian – a lovely man named Stefaan Lesage, who does a Mac podcast called itutorpodcast.com<\/a>. I was hoping to listen to it but it’s in Dutch so all our Belgian friends will get to enjoy it! Can someone explain to me why we have such a high percentage of Belgians on this show? It’s getting kind of spooky! Stefaan hung out with the Mac Roundtable crew the whole time and we really enjoyed getting to know him.<\/p>\n

\"alI was thrilled to get to speak at Blogworld, and I did a session called simply Introduction to Audio Podcasting. As is frequently the case with me, when I get excited I talk REALLY fast. So what I thought would be a 45 minute presentation ended up only taking 30 minutes. That turned out to be perfect because they had a lot of questions and the whole thing turned out to be about one hour. My plan was that I would turn on my Zoom H2 on the podium to record myself, but it wasn’t until I got to the part where I wanted to show the audience the H2 that I realized I never set it up to record. the good news is that Donald Burr was in the front row with his Zoom H2 (and he DID remember to record) and Steve had his camcorder recording as well. Now this gave Steve and me an excuse to learn how to extract audio from iMovie, and how to use SoundSoap from Bias Inc<\/a>. as a plugin for Wiretap studio to extract noise, remove rumble, and amplify the sound so that it’s at least tolerable for you. the irony of this is that the very first time I met Donald Burr was at the Bias booth at the Podcast Expo a few years ago! So here we are 3 years later and I’m using SoundSoap to enhance the recording Donald made for me. How’s that for the circle of life?<\/p>\n

The slides are very minimalistic to give visual cues, but the last 3 pages has links to all the products I talked about and the cost of each product. I’m very pleased with the slides – it was actually my first official foray into Apple’s Keynote software and I was delighted with how quickly I was able to figure out how to do stuff, like transitions and a teeny bit of animation on the slides. I was even more delighted when I received an email from slideshare.net telling me that they were featuring my slides on their home page under Blogworld! How cool is that?<\/p>\n
