Despite the quieter design, performance remains strong, demonstrated by lifting a basketball with its airflow.

The T1 is available for pre-order at $599, with a premium version at $699. Obviously, the noise is really annoying to everyone, but it’s actually deadly to the people running those gas leaf blowers. So, I’m a big fan of my little itty bitty leaf blower that I got for Mother’s Day, my electric leaf blower, of course. But I’m here with Andrew Terajewicz, who is from a company called Whisper Aero, who has a giant leaf blower here, and he’s going to show us a lot about it.

Andrew: Yeah, awesome. It’s great to meet you, Allison. Our company is called Whisper Aero. We’re four years in the making. We’re an aerospace startup, and we’re focused on ultra-quiet propulsion technology for aircraft and drones. Tone by Whisper Aero is our outdoor air management brand, and we’re focused on taking this cutting-edge aerospace technology and putting it into everyday items to improve people’s lives, for landscapers in Los Angeles as well as in your kitchen with a range hood fan. Anything that moves air, we can do more quietly. We’ve proven that here with this leaf blower. I’d love to give you a demo.

Allison: Yes, absolutely. We could do the comedy again too for this part, but let’s go.

Andrew: We can do a little bit of both. In my right hand, I have this no-name leaf blower. It’s great. It’s on the market. I own these.

Allison: It’s electric.

Andrew: It’s electric, battery operated, and it’s the same output, same force as the one that we’re bringing to market. So you’ll hear the difference.

Allison: Okay.

Andrew: 65 dBA, he says.

Allison: You look at the leaves moving behind us. I’m actually still blowing. But this is only 52 dBA, and we’re able to have a conversation. Oh my gosh. So what was the first really loud one? How loud?

Andrew: 65 decibels. We’re 52 decibels, which is about 60% quieter to the human ear.

Allison: Now you’re asking people to understand logarithms and know the difference.

Andrew: We did the math for you. It’s about 60% quieter.

Allison: But you could tell. I didn’t even realize the other one was still running. That was amazing.

Andrew: We do a lot of work in Los Angeles. I’ve been out there testing with gardeners and landscapers, and we hear it all about the weight of these products, the noise, and the hearing loss. We’re super excited not only to benefit consumers and residential users, because neighborhoods shouldn’t be loud on a Saturday morning, but also businesses and landscapers doing properties at hotels and resorts.

Allison: Right. And dying of cancer from everything, the fumes and everything. It’s really terrible. Look it up. It’s really bad. Can I hold it?

Andrew: Yeah, please.

Allison: All right. Okay, that is a very, very heavy leaf blower.

Andrew: It’s heavy. If we look at the top leading handheld battery leaf blowers, we’re in the top percent, but there are others that are heavier than us. We’re doing our best to reduce weight. The Gen 2 will have a lower weight, but this is comparable to some other blowers you might have seen.

Allison: Okay. It’s balanced well, but that is not for my hand, I’m afraid.

Andrew: If it’s too heavy for big properties and resorts, what we’ve done is remove this 3.4-pound battery pack.

Allison: Oh. Okay, now it’s a lot lighter.

Andrew: Yeah, this is only 15 pounds, so it’s still lighter than a gas backpack blower.

Allison: You wear this on your back? Can I put it on?

Andrew: Sure.

Allison: All right. We’re going to do Ghostbusters here. I’m putting on a backpack. How much does this weigh?

Andrew: This is about 16 pounds.

Allison: Okay. All right. That’s much better balanced than holding that in my hand.

Andrew: What we have, and this is launching soon after the main product, really unlocks a lot of opportunity with businesses doing campuses and such. Now you just have this in your hands, and this will plug into the back.

Allison: Okay. So he just put something else where the battery was. So now I’m ready to go. All right, Steve.

Andrew: Although it doesn’t work. Sorry.

Allison: Oh, it doesn’t work. Okay. All right. But that’s obviously a lot better for ergonomics, and you’ve got a lot more power in the backpack, right?

Andrew: Yep, exactly. You get a lot more runtime, a little bit more power, and you’re able to be a lot more productive.

Allison: All right, Andrew, why don’t you take this off me, and we’re going to do a test with this.

Andrew: That’s great.

Allison: All right, I’m taking it off, and we’re going to pull this off. How does that dislodge?

Andrew: Yep, just like that there, and then we’ve got to put the battery back in.

Allison: Sure. What do you want to do? No, the real test would be I’ll stand here, and I think you need to shoot it straight at my face.

Andrew: We can do two. Have you seen the basketball trick we can play?

Allison: Oh yeah, let’s do the basketball trick first. Can I put it up there? Okay, so I’m going to hold up a basketball.

Andrew: Just hold it in front of the blower.

Allison: All right, and he’s going to start blowing. He’s got it up in the air.

Andrew: Again, 26 newtons of blowing force. You can see the basketball is floating up there.

Allison: Yeah, if you’ve ever tried this at home, it’s super fun with kids. We’ve done a beach ball. This is doing a basketball.

Andrew: It’s heavy. It’s a real basketball.

Allison: That is really heavy. That’s a real basketball. That is impressive. All right, but it’s only good if you show them what you could do to my face. Okay, now you’re a lot closer than you were before. Okay, ready?

Andrew: Ready? Your cheeks might blow.

Allison: You are really enjoying this, aren’t you? Okay, go.

Andrew: Now your hair looks great.

Allison: All right, that’s good. So are these on the market yet?

Andrew: We are taking pre-orders now. We have production tooling that’s already been cut, and we’re shipping in September of this year.

Allison: Okay, and do you have a price point?

Andrew: $599 for the blower, the high-capacity battery, and the rapid charger. And then we have a Silence is Golden limited edition that’s $699.

Allison: Is it just because it looks really cool?

Andrew: Yeah, exactly. If you want to show off to your neighbors how much you care about being quiet.

Allison: Oh, there you go. There you go. And the company is Whisper Aero, A-E-R-O. What is the website?

Andrew: You can purchase this at ToneOutdoors.com. Tone is our brand by Whisper Aero. So you can visit us at WhisperAero.com or ToneOutdoors.com to buy the leaf blower.

Allison: Very good. Thank you so much, Andrew. That was a lot of fun.

Andrew: Cool.
