Today is Sunday, May 10, 2026, and this is show number 1096. Welcome to this special Mother’s Day episode of the show. Well, it’s actually just the same old show, but Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms out there!

https://media.blubrry.com/nosillacast/traffic.libsyn.com/nosillacast/NC_2026_05_10.mp3

mp3 download

Articles

PBS 184: SASS Basics (CSS)

A while back, Bart and I decided to stop creating a post on podfeet.com when an episode of Programming By Stealth was published. I’d send people to Podfeet first, and while they could listen to the audio from there, they couldn’t read Bart’s fabulous tutorial shownotes. So they’d have to click a link in that post to get to his post, which is essential for learning the material. I was wasting users’ time and adding no value with those Podfeet posts.

Anywho, you’re probably aware of all this, but I just realized a downside to only publishing on the PBS website. When I create the shownotes for the NosillaCast, I look at the week’s blog posts so I know what to talk about in the show. Since there’s no post for Programming By Stealth, I’ve been forgetting to tell you about new installments!

I can’t rectify all that I’ve forgotten to tell you about, but I do want to tell you about the two most recent installments.

Bootstrap is an amazing technology to help you create nice-looking layouts on web pages. Bart did a mini-series on Bootstrap a while back, and it was great. The one downside of Bootstrap is that it’s so popular, your site can end up looking a lot like every other site. In Programming By Stealth 183 and 184, Bart is teaching us how to customize Bootstrap to make it our own branding and change the look and feel while getting all of the advantages of Bootstrap for web design.

In Programming By Stealth 183, Bart taught us how to use CSS custom properties to tailor some of the look and feel, but he also explained the limitations of that technique. In Programming By Stealth 184, you’ll learn how to use something called SASS, which is a pre-processor for CSS.

SASS is closer to a proper programming language, allowing you to create variables, as well as lists and dictionaries, and even loop over them. There’s a lot to learn about SASS, so Bart’s show notes for PBS 184 are very long. We broke the audio recording of the podcast up into two halves, and we’ve just published PBS 184A – SASS Basics.

I call it the first half, but this installment is almost two hours long! It’s not a heavy lift, but there’s a lot to lift, so it takes us a while to go through it all. The concepts are pretty simple, and I found most of it extremely intuitive.

If this sounds interesting to you, I recommend you go to pbs.bartificer.net, and of course, subscribe in your podcatcher of choice to Programming By Stealth.

CES 2026: Whisper Aero Tone T1 Quiet Leaf Blower

Tiny Mac Tips Part 11

CES 2026: XiViX Dentist-Supervised Robotic Tooth Preparation

Support the Show

I mentioned my affiliate links recently, and I’m delighted to tell you that some anonymous NosillaCastaway signed up for Setapp using my referral link. Not only did they get a free month of Setapp, but I also got a free month of Setapp! This is just as good as a financial donation because it saves me real money. I love the image for that, it’s two people holding a bag of money! In any case, thanks so much you lovely anonymous person for enjoying Setapp and giving us both a freebie!

Security Bits — 10 May 2026

Transcript of NC_2026_05_10

That’s going to wind this up for this week.
