{"id":36474,"date":"2026-08-23T11:22:05","date_gmt":"2026-08-23T18:22:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.podfeet.com\/blog\/?p=36474"},"modified":"2026-08-23T11:22:05","modified_gmt":"2026-08-23T18:22:05","slug":"peak-design-phone-bike-mount","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.podfeet.com\/blog\/2026\/08\/peak-design-phone-bike-mount\/","title":{"rendered":"Peak Design Phone Bike Mount"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Apple Watch, all by itself, is a capable cycle computer, but when you add in Bluetooth cadence and heart-rate sensors (as previously reviewed), you get a superb cycle computer, just one with an awkwardly small screen! iOS 26 solved that final problem with the Workouts app&#8217;s live activity on the iPhone \u2014 you can now get a full-screen, real-time, easy-to-read copy of the metrics you&#8217;ve configured the workouts app on the watch to show. The final challenge is a mount to connect your iPhone to your handlebars in a robust and reliable way. That&#8217;s where Peak Design enter the story!<\/p>\n<p>After years of resisting becoming <em>one of those guys<\/em> with a great big iPhone strapped to their handlebars \u2014 I&#8217;m now using my iPhone 17 Pro Max as the screen for my cycle computer! While my experience has changed a lot, the actual mechanism for tracking and recording the metrics is completely unchanged \u2014 it&#8217;s still the standard workouts app on my Phone sending everything to Apple Health!<\/p>\n<h1>The Brains of the Operation \u2014 Apple Watch + Bluetooth Sensors<\/h1>\n<ol>\n<li>Still using the <a href =\"https:\/\/www.podfeet.com\/blog\/2023\/08\/wahoo-tickr\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Wahoo Tickr Fit heart-rate sensor<\/a> I reviewed in 2023<\/li>\n<li>Still using the <a href =\"https:\/\/www.podfeet.com\/blog\/2024\/08\/rpm-cadence-sensor-from-wahoo\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Wahoo RPM Cadence sensor<\/a> I reviewed in 2024<\/li>\n<li>Very important tip (even if you only use the watch as your screen) \u2014 take the time to <a href =\"https:\/\/support.apple.com\/en-gb\/guide\/watch\/apd6b0679060\/watchos\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">customise the views for the Cycling workout type in the Workouts app on the Apple Watch<\/a>\n<ol>\n<li>At the very least, delete the screens you don&#8217;t use so you have fewer to scroll through<\/li>\n<li>Some of the metrics screens can themselves be customised, so you may want to do that too<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2>Projecting to the iPhone<\/h2>\n<p>You don&#8217;t have to do anything special to project a workout in progress to the iPhone, as soon as you start you&#8217;ll see it show up on your lockscreen as a live activity! Simple tap it, let FaceID happen, and your phone becomes a full-screen cycle computer that will stay unlocked until you end the workout or press the lock button. You can even control the workout from the phone, so you can water lock the watch and never worry about accidentally tapping the end-workout button with your sleeve (again)!<\/p>\n<figure style=\"float: center; margin: 10px\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.podfeet.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/08\/Projected-Workout-Views.jpg\" alt=\"3 Projected Workout Views of speed RPM and zone\"  title=\"Projected Workout Views.jpg\" width=\"800 \" height=\"557\"><figcaption style=\"text-align:center\">Projected Phone Views<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h1>Securing the Phone to the Bike<\/h1>\n<p>I buy expensive iPhones, and I cycle on rough roads and dirt tracks; the biggest reason I have avoided strapping a phone to my bike to date is simply my fear of destroying or losing it!<\/p>\n<p>What finally convinced me were these two product videos from Peak Design:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li><a href =\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=a3slfkXbUyo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Peak Design Out Front Bike Mount V2<\/a> <\/li>\n<li><a href =\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Tc-oAObe-as\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Universal Bar Mount Feature Overview<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>I have two bikes \u2014 a mountain bike and a city bike, so I needed two mounts, and they did not necessarily need to be the same.
