Andy Dolph on the Presentation Software (no blog post)

Last week, Knightwise joined me on Chit Chat Across the Pond, and in that discussion, we talked a little bit about presentation software, and I expressed my vehement dislike of both PowerPoint and Keynote. Long-time listener Andy Dolph has been listening at least since 2012, and he sent in an audio comment about what I said.

After he sent that in, he said he hadn’t heard all of the interview and later heard us say much of what he said. I still love his perspective.

I told him that I like his screwdriver analogy because I think it’s actually perfect if you say it backwards. Imagine you designed a tool to open paint cans, but almost everyone used it to turn screws. That’s what happens with charts. I think Knightwise put it perfectly when he said something along the lines of, “If your charts say what you’re going to say, one of you is redundant, and only one of you can be an email attachment.”

After Andy and I chatted a bit more via email, we decided it’s time for him to come on the show to tell us all about his work because it sounds fascinating. We’ve scheduled it in the near future, so we all have that to look forward to.
