NC #1075 Record Your Own Review, Sandy’s Smart Outlets, Everything Tech is Broken, Andy Dolph on Zoom Webinars for Remote Events

Hi, this is Allison Sheridan of the NosillaCast Apple Podcast, hosted at Podfeet.com, a technology geek podcast with an EVER so slight Apple bias. Today is Sunday, December 14, 2025, and this is show number 1075.

Before we get started, I wanted to let everyone know that there will be NO LIVE SHOW for the next three weeks! Christmas, then New Year’s, and then CES all back to back make it impossible. Our next live show will be on January 11th.

Record Your Own Review

Now, don’t worry, that doesn’t mean you’ll miss your weekly fix of the NosillaCast.

I’ve got enough content lined up for the next two shows, but I could use some help for the episode I’ll be publishing early on January 2nd. If you’ve got something you think might be worthy of a review, now is the time to write it up and get recording.

Steve Mattan is starting to work on a review, and he asked me a great question: “Do you have any guidelines you’ve written up that would help to understand your expectations?” While I do have that on Podfeet.com (it’s been on the home page for more than a decade), I entirely forgot I had it when Steve asked. The original version was written so long ago that I talk about iTunes! I checked, and my first reference to the page was on episode #318 of the NosillaCast.

I wrote a whole new shiny set of instructions (which to be honest aren’t all that much different from what they’ve always been. I cover:

  • How Long Should it Be?
  • How to write a Script
  • Things not to Do
  • How to Record
    • Microphone
      • Software to record (options)
  • File Formats for audio, the script, and images
  • How to Send the Recordings and Script to Me
  • And I encourage you to ask Questions!

There’s a link in the shownotes to the new and improved Record a Review page, but you can always find it on podfeet.com by going to Support the show, and after all of the panhangling links you’ll see a little kid screaming into a microphone – that’s the link to Record a Review.

Smart Outlets — by Sandy Foster

I asked Sandy after she’d recorded which smart outlets she’s favoring these days. I was surprised to learn that she’s using Meross switches. Those happen to be my favorite (since Steven Goetz turned us onto them), but I knew she’d had trouble with them in the past. She explained that she’d just gotten a bad batch but the new ones are working great for her.

Meross now has Matter and Thread support in their smart outlets, and they’ve got some new form factors to check out. You can find them at meross.com.

Thanks, Sandy – love both the Christmas tree from your geolocation AND keeping your home safe with that double-coverage of your iron being turned off.

Support the Show

We have not one, but two heroes of the week. Our first hero is Philip Ricotta who went to podfeet.com/donate and bought me a coffee! It’s so easy to do, no signups, and use any credit card you like or Apple Pay. Thank you so much, Philip!

Our second hero of the week is Owen Harris, who took his hard-earned dollars to podfeet.com/patreon and became our newest Patron. He also joined our Slack community at podfeet.com/slack so he could join in the fun. We chatted in a DM in Slack, and he explained that he’s been listening to Programming By Stealth for over a year, and is only just starting to explore the other shows. How cool is that?

Thank you both for your support of the Podfeet Podcasts!
