Follow Up on Panel Editor

Last week, I told you about my amazing discovery of the built-in app Panel Editor, which allows you to make a set of onscreen buttons that can act much like a Stream Deck. I was so proud of my discovery and decided to do a pop quiz with Adam Engst to see if he’d ever heard of it. I figured if Adam had never heard of it, then I’d really discovered something.

When I asked, Adam said no, he hadn’t heard of it. I sent him my article, and he said he didn’t have time to read it right away but would in a few days. Now here’s where the story gets funny. A few days later, he told me that it turns out he had written about Panel Editor back in 2019. I thought that was amusing, and reassuring because I often forget what I talked about last week.

But it gets funnier. I started reading his article, and in it, he talked about this trick Sal Saghoian demonstrated at a conference called MacTech. When I saw the screenshot of the panel Sal had created, I suddenly remembered that I was actually at that MacTech talk and saw Sal’s demonstration! And … I wrote it up too!

I told Adam I was there and that’s when the story got to the funniest part. Adam remembered we were sitting next to each other at MacTech when we both saw Sal demonstrate Panel Editor.

You know that classic trope in movies and TV shows of two old ladies sitting around, both not being able to remember a story? Yeah, that’s Adam and me.

The good news is that sitting together at MacTech is how we became friends, which led to Adam being our regular guest on Chit Chat Across the Pond.

Support the Show

I explained earlier in the show that the wonderful service Auphonic does most of the work to bring you great audio, and saves me a bucketload of time to publish the show. I mentioned that the extra credits were $12, and you know, that one’s on me for borking up the feed. But Auphonic costs $11/month, and you all benefit, so if just 12 of you went to podfeet.com/donate and bought me two coffees, that would almost pay for a year’s worth of Auphonic. That would be awesome!
