Hi, this is Allison Sheridan of the NosillaCast Apple Podcast, hosted at Podfeet.com, a technology geek podcast with an EVER so slight Apple bias. Today is Sunday, February 1, 2026, and this is show number 1082.
Steve and I are preparing to go on a big adventure. On Monday, February 9, we’re going to fly to Finland, spend a couple of days in Helsinki, and take a ferry over to Estonia to visit the town of Tallin. Then we’re going to fly up to Lapland, which is way the heck up into the Arctic Circle. We’re going to stay in glass-domed cabins with hopes of seeing the Northern Lights.

I know a lot of the globe has been able to walk out into their back yards to see them, but being down in Southern California, we’ve been sitting on the sidelines, missing all of the fun. Even if the Northern Lights don’t happen (you’re buying a chance when you go on a trip like this), we’re going snowshoeing and dogsledding too, so it should be a lot of fun.
I’m telling you all of this as a heads-up that the February 15th episode of the NosillaCast will be hosted by the lovely Jill from the Northwoods, and there will be no live show as a result. We will have one last live show on the 8th of February, so we’re not gone yet! Many thanks in advance to Jill for stepping in for us.
Also, if you live in Helsinki and would like to meet up on February 11, or if you just have ideas of what we should see there, shoot me an email at [email protected]
PBS Tidbit 17: Simplifying Developer Setups with Docker
In Programming By Stealth this week, I wasn’t on the show, and Bart wasn’t the instructor. Instead, Helma van der Linden was the teacher with Bart as the student. She took on the monumental task of teaching us all about Docker and how a Docker setup can be a great tool for developers.
She explains how both virtual environments and virtual machines can make it easier to develop projects on a local machine, but there are significant downsides. Using Docker technology, you can create isolated environments that are portable to other people and to other projects.
The lesson was so huge that Helma and Bart recorded it in two separate podcast episodes, Tidbit 17a and 17b, with one mammoth blog post for you to follow along as you listen.
You can, of course, find Programming By Stealth in your podcatcher of choice and look for PBS Tidbit 17 of Y, or you can follow the link in the shownotes to pbs.bartificer.net/…

CES 2026: NWRF Safe Battery Disposal Campaign
We’ve got three CES interviews coming up, and I want to remind you that all of these are also available in video. Steve does a great job at producing the videos and also extracting the audio for the podcast. We’ve got some fun with me hanging with Woodsy Owl and me driving a personal electric vehicle, both of which are great in video.

Wasn’t that a lovely tone? Does it make you feel generous in spirit? Well, you know what I have to ask for, right? I spent $5 on the useless longer cash register jingle and $10 on Simple Soft Tone, so can someone go over to podfeet.com/donate and buy me 3 coffees? Thanks, that would be swell.
