Allison interviews Anthony Riou from On Group about the On Sprinkler, a compact and portable smart sprinkler system controlled using a mobile app.
On Sprinkler is designed to sprinkle irregularly shaped yards and gardens. The sprinkler device is stationary and has a gimbaled head that swivels in azimuth and a nozzle that rotates in elevation, delivering water to a distance of 2 to 9 meters.
With the On Sprinkler app, you define the area of your garden or lawn that needs watering, place the sprinkler in that area, and begin watering.
To handle multiple separated watering areas, On Sprinkler comes with ten bases on which you set the sprinkler head. Each base stores a user-defined area to be sprinkled for each specific location, which is communicated to the sprinkler device via NFC.
The On Sprinkler is scheduled for release in September 2026 for a price around $300.

Allison: I’m here with Anthony Riou, who is from a company that has a product called On Sprinkler, and the problem to be solved is irregularly shaped yards—I’m sorry, gardens, as the French say—that need to be sprinkled, and you’ve got a portable unit here that’s moving around doing all kinds of crazy things and you’ve got a tablet; tell us about what we’re looking at.
Antony: The idea today is to stop watering the neighbor or the road or whatever is not to be watered. Here with the On Sprinkler, you will delimit one area; here is the On Sprinkler in the middle, and then, for example, here you have the shape of your garden.
Allison: I’m going to describe this because it’s audio only as well. He’s got a bunch of different waypoints that have described an arc, and this is a very irregularly shaped yard described on a tablet, right?
Antony: Yes, exactly. Actually, you can do any shape you want.
Allison: He’s flipping through different shapes; oh, that’s a wing.
Antony: Yeah, and then after, with the head of the sprinkler, you see it’s moving and you can water, let’s say, just on the limit, or you can water from 2 meters to 9 meters, and that will also depend a little bit on the pressure you have on the pipe, but basically with the head and the rotation you will only water this area.
Allison: The device is essentially stationary, but it’s got a gimbal on top with the sprinkler head rotating and then going up and down, so it’s going in elevation and azimuth around the vertical axis of this, and it’s got a handle on top so you can lift it and move it to a different area.
Antony: Yes, exactly, and you see here, you have the base, and the base, you can have, for example, up to 10 different bases, and when you put the sprinkler on the base, you already have your setting done, because when you set for the first time, for example, the base one, it’s area one, and the On Sprinkler with the NFC will directly connect to the base, so, for example, you have one base here, one other base somewhere else, and when you put the sprinkler directly on it, it’s already set.
Allison: Okay, so this base he’s pointing out is an orange square with some holes in it, but this has NFC in it, you’re saying, so it’s recognizing, “Oh, now I’m in zone two.”
Antony: Yes, exactly. Because the setting you do it basically one time, and then afterwards you just have to put the sprinkler on the base and it’s done.
Allison: That’s pretty cool. Is this on the market yet?
Antony: No, in September. It will be about 300 dollars US.
Allison: 300 dollars? Oh, I was thinking a much higher number; I was thinking more zeros in that. Oh, come on, Anthony. If people want to learn more about the On Sprinkler, they would go to ongroup.net?
Antony: Yes, they will see ongroup.net and onsavewater.com. Yeah, actually OnSaveWater is a brand; we are developing a bunch of products for us to save the water—limitation of water, also storage of water, de-pollution of water.
Allison: I live in California, so we’re very interested in this kind of technology. Thank you very much; this is very interesting. Good luck.
Antony: Thanks to you. Have a nice fair.
