NC #745 Search for Secure Email Service, Apple iPhone Case Warranty, AppleCard with Denise

It’s an all-female cast this week with Dorothy telling us about her quest for a new secure email service, Sandy talking CarPlay in cars on Chit Chat Across the Pond and Denise talking AppleCard with me. I even do a quick bit on the show about how Apple didn’t honor the warranty on the iPhone case they sold me.

Hi, this is Allison Sheridan of the NosillaCast Apple Podcast, hosted at Podfeet.com, a technology geek podcast with an EVER so slight Apple bias. Today is Sunday, August 18, 2019, and this is show number 745. Before we get started, I have to confess that I’m going on yet another vacation. We’re going to Michigan to hang out with my uncle and cousins. My cousin Dori keeps posting photos on Facebook of her bare feet sticking up out of the end of a kayak floating down a river, so I wrote to her and said, “I want to come to Michigan and do that with you.” I’ve only seen this group of cousins and uncle once before as an adult but they’re all hilarious.

Now why do you care that I’m going to float down a river with my cousin? Because the trip will span either side of next weekend. That means the NosillaCast will be late! Now I’ve given you a few of them early in the past year, so I think I’ve got some credit banked here. If I do the show on Tuesday instead of Sunday, Bart can do a Security Bits with me so it will be a great, full show. But that means there will be no live show on Sunday, August 25th. Hear that live show folks? They don’t pay very much attention to me so I have to wake them up sometimes. No live show next Sunday!

Clockwise

I had the great pleasure of being on the Clockwise Podcast this week. It was hosted by Mikah Sargent and returning host emeritus Jason Snell as Dan Moren was out. The other guest was Ant Pruitt from Tech Republic. Clockwise has an unusual (and delightful) format. They cover four tech topics in exactly 30 minutes. Each guest lobs up a topic and the other three answer in just 2-3 minutes. It’s crisp, well thought out and lots of fun to listen to. This week we talked about the books we want to be made into television series, using online delivery services, and my question: whether each of us is a fanatic about clipboard managers, or whether we don’t see what all the fuss is about. I loved the answers because I got the full spectrum on that one! You can find this episode of Clockwise at relay.fm/clockwise Episode 307.

Chit Chat Across the Pond

In Chit Chat Across the Pond this week I asked Sandy Foster, aka @MacQuilter on Twitter and simply Sandy in the live chatroom and in our Slack group to come on the show to talk about why she bought a specific model car just to get CarPlay. Everybody keeps telling me how awesome CarPlay is, and not having really gotten to play with it much, I hadn’t really gotten a feel for why people love it. Sandy walks through how it works on her new Prius Prime, which is the only 2020 model Prius that has CarPlay. We move from CarPlay into talking about the cool tech her new car has, and there’s a surprise technology in there that’s really innovative. I thought about calling this, “Two Chicks Talk Cars” or maybe “Two Grandmas Talk Cars” but I’ll go with CCATP #605 — Sandy Foster on CarPlay and Prius Prime Tech, in your full CCATP feed, or under CCATP Lite. And as always you can listen over at podfeet.com.

Let’s start with a fascinating tech journey that Dorothy, AKA @Maclurker has entered into.

Support the Show

Every once in a while I like to remind you that a great way to support the Podfeet Podcasts is to donate to Bart, rather than me. Bart puts in a massive amount of time reading security articles, figuring out the implications of what he learns, then writing them up and teaching them to us. He keeps us safe and secure, and that’s not even counting the work he puts into Programming By Stealth. If you’re interested in supporting Bart, the best way is to go to his podcast site, lets-talk.ie and choose a way to support him. He’s got two big blue buttons that you can’t miss, one to support him via Patreon which gives him a reliable revenue stream, or if you’d prefer to do a lump-sum donation you can use his PayPal button. He isn’t trying to make a retirement plan out of the podcast work that he does, just to make it not cost him money to produce the fantastic work that he creates. While you’re there, check out his two podcasts, Let’s Talk Apple and Let’s Talk Photography, they’re both fantastic!

AppleCard with Denise

That’s going to wind this up for this week. Where are the show notes for “AppleCard with Denise”?

  2. Allison Sheridan - August 19, 2019

There weren’t any – it was an off-the-cuff conversation.
