NC #747 Prizmo 5, Tesla Tech Self Driving, How to Fix Siri, Processor Slow Down

We’ve got a first-time contribution from a 13-year listener named Christian about Prizmo 5, I’ll explain the tech behind Tesla’s self driving modes, I give Apple advice on how to fix Siri. Then I’ll tell you a long, sad, frustrating tale of how my 2015 MacBook Pro appears to be failing and all of the experiments Steve and I have done to try and diagnose the problems.

Hi, this is Allison Sheridan of the NosillaCast Apple Podcast, hosted at Podfeet.com, a technology geek podcast with an EVER so slight Apple bias. Today is Sunday, September 1, 2019, and this is show number 747. Yeah, I heard it, the jet episode.

Steve and I are finally done with our summer travels. I knew we’d been a lot of places, but we added up exactly what we did this summer. We were in 3 countries, took 19 flights, traveled 1219 miles by bus and added together flew the equivalent of the circumference of the earth. And we did this in 3 months. We got to go to the Alt Conf next to WWDC, we enjoyed Macstock, we saw a total eclipse of the sun in Chile, we went to Canada with our family for a week on a lake, and we got to visit with my cousins and uncle in Michigan. I’d say that’s a pretty successful summer.

And because of Bart and Allister and all of the NosillaCastaways who contributed content, the NosillaCast maintained its record of no shows missed in 14 years!

Chit Chat Across the Pond

Programming By Stealth is still on summer break but Bart Busschots is back with a phenomenal episode of Chit Chat Across the Pond. Scott Fairclough asked him if he’d explained DoT and DoH.

First Bart gives us a full refresher on exactly what DNS is (and I needed that refresher.) Then he explains the problems with DNS from a security and privacy point of view. Then he walks us through how DoT, aka DNS over TLS and DoH, aka DNS over https (which is actually http over TLS) will start protecting us in the future (and in some cases the present.)

Because we’re just this nerdy, this episode will be found in your Chit Chat Across the Pond Lite feed (or the full Chit Chat Across the Pond feed). And of course you can always go listen to episode #606 over at podfeet.com.

Prizmo 5 for iOS – by Christian Hölscher

I can’t believe you’ve been listening for 13 years! I miss Honda Bob too. It’s funny you don’t think you’re a “real” NosillaCastaway! I’m pretty sure 13 years of listening gets you that moniker. Thanks for the great review. Creaceed is a great company. I bought Prizmo years ago but have been using Scanner Pro lately. Sounds like I’ll be switching back. Thanks for poking your head up to say hi!
