NC #651 iPhone X Ordering, Sennheiser Headphones, Olympus & Monoprice Tracking, Security Bits

Failure to order two iPhone X’s but at least Steve is getting one. Helma from the Netherlands reviews the Sennheiser PXC 550 Wireless Headphones. Both Olympus and Monoprice are forcing third-party cookie tracking on you when you’re buying from them. Bart Busschots brings us another edition of Security Bits where he talks about insecure child smart watches, how the IRS isn’t worried about the Equifax breach, a macro-less remote code execution problem in Microsoft Office, and how Eltima was hacked. He also tells us how several of the week’s “big” security news stories are not actually stories at all.

Olympus Forcing Users to Agree to Third-Party Cookie Ad Tracker

If I didn’t have the screenshots to prove it, you’d think I was making this story up. Olympus, the camera manufacturer, is blocking their own content unless you allow third-party ad tracking from a company called Criteo.

I first discovered this when I used my iPhone to getolympus.com with the intent of comparing the Olympus OM-D E-M5 Mark II to the E-M10 Mark III.

With iOS 11 and High Sierra from Apple, third-party cookie tracking is blocked by default. It doesn’t stop ads, it just keeps companies with whom you have no relationship from collecting your browsing history as you move around the Internet. PhotoCon LA 2016: Olympus PEN-F Camera and 300mm Prime Lens

Allison interviews Ray Acevedo from Olympus about two of their new products: the PEN-F camera and the M.Zuiko 300mm lens. The PEN-F is a mirrorless, range-finder style camera with the same internals as other Olympus OM-D cameras. It has a vintage design and is well suited for street photography. The M.Zuiko 300mm fixed focal length F4.0 lens is part of Olympus’ PRO line designed for micro 4/3 cameras. It provides the equivalent zoom of a 600mm standard DSLR lens at a significantly reduced price, size and weight. This lens offers the highest resolution of any lens Olympus has ever made. The setting is The Reef in downtown Las Angeles.

CCATP #437 Devin King on Photography

In this week’s episode of Chit Chat Across the Pond, we’re joined by Devin King, the first VP and Program Director for SMOG, the Southern California Macintosh Owners | Users Group (Ocmug.org). He’s a photographer who converted from a giant Canon DSLR to carrying two mirrorless cameras, the Olympus OM-D E-M1 and the Fuji X-T1.

We talk about what drove him to abandon the DSLR form factor and go to mirrorless cameras, and why he bought two of them, and the differences between them. We talk about applications for processing photos from Apple Photos to Lightroom and a whole lot of other editors:

NC #556 Honda Bob on Apple Battery Case, Olympus Macro Lens, Shure MVi Audio Interface, Facebook – Resistance is Futile

Honda Bob is doing GREAT after his bone marrow transplant (who’s Honda Bob? I’ll explain that) and he gives us his review of the Apple Battery case for the iPhone 6 and 6s. I review the Olympus 60mm f/2.8 Macro Lens for the micro four thirds camera I own (spoiler, it’s awesome!) and I review the Shure MVi Digital Audio Interface and the companion MOTIV App for iOS. Finally I’ll broach the idea of whether we should have a Facebook group. I feel like resistance is futile.
