NC #672 Tech on Travel, Overcast Playlists, Auto-HDR on Olympus Cameras, Security Bits Cambridge Analytica & Facebook

I’ll talk about what tech things we used and learned more about in Paris including improvements in Project Fi, VPN challenges, Apple Pay, calorie metrics with Apple Watch and high-speed trains. Bart barges in on the show to tell me about how he uses a combination of smart playlists and modifications in Overcast to create the best of both worlds. I’ll tell you about a really cool button I found on my Olympus OM-D E-M5 Mark II to automatically shoot HDR shots. Bart joins us again for an out-of-band Security Bits to talk about the kerfuffle about Cambridge Analytica and Facebook.

Hi, this is Allison Sheridan of the NosillaCast Apple Podcast, hosted at Podfeet.com, a technology geek podcast with an EVER so slight Apple bias. Today is Sunday, March 25, 2018, and this is show number 672.

Well Steve and I are finally back from our adventure to France. I can’t thank Allister and Bart enough for holding down the fort and keeping our nearly 13 year streak going of uninterrupted NosillaCasts. I loved both shows, and appreciated how much you guys helped by submitting reviews for them. Excellent work all around. You’ve probably noticed that I didn’t manage to do a Chit Chat Across the Pond while we were gone but we will resume our regularly scheduled programming next week with a new episode of Programming By Stealth with Bart.

Bart on Playlists in Overcast

Bart invited me to come onto the show with him so he could tell me how he uses the playlists feature of Overcast. There are no shownotes for this portion but in it he explains how with Overcast you can use smart playlists to start, but then modify the smart playlists to exactly the order and episodes to which you want to listen. He’s proven to me that the implementation is actually the best of both worlds – automated but tailorable.

Patreon and Amazon

Can you imagine how delightful it was to come back from our adventure overseas to find that Mark Mauno and Clinton MacDonald had just pledged their support of the NosillaCast through Patreon? How cool is that? It gives me such a great feeling to know that we’re providing value to you and you show this appreciation through financial support. I understand that many of you are not in a position to support the efforts here through financial means and that’s 100% ok. But it’s great to have supporters who can help pay the costs of producing the shows. Many thanks to the other 65 patrons who have continued their patronage for all this time. You guys rock!
