NC #676 Polaroid ZIP Mobile Printer, Vitec Imaging, Hindenburg Journalist, mimoLive

Next week the SMR Podcast guys are in charge of the show (good luck with that) so there won’t be a live show till May 6th. This week we’ve got a review of the Polaroid ZIP Mobile Printer done on location in Belgium with Peter Boodts, we’ve got two interviews from NAB: Vice Imaging about their Manfrotto grip for the mobile videographer and Hindenburg Journalist, the software I use for recording the NosillaCast. Then I’ll tell you about a crazy tool called mimoLive from Boinx Software that Steve and I are using to produce the live NosillaCast.

Polaroid ZIP Mobile Printer by Peter Boodts

Polaroid ZIP Mobile PrinterWhile Steve and I were in France on vacation, we took a day trip over to Belgium to meet up with friends. It all started when Helma from the Netherlands pointed out that it was only an hour and a half drive from her to get to Brussels and the same time for us to take a bullet train from Paris.

I’ve been trying to get Helma together with our crazy friend Knightwise and his lovely wife Nyana from Belgium so this looked like a great excuse. Well, we couldn’t go to Brussels and not see good friend of the show Peter Boodts.

When we got to Brussels, it was 27F outside and some of us (particularly Knightwise) were not adequately clothed for the weather, so we kept stopping in coffee shops and restaurants every time we got chilly. Steve and I actually ate 7 times that day.

Anyway, while in one of the restaurants, Peter said he had a product review for us. He showed us the Polaroid ZIP Mobile Printer. I recorded his review on my iPhone and shortly after Peter and I started to talk, Knightwise decided to record it on video. The full interview is a bit longer in audio where you’ll hear the voices of Knightwise, Nyana, Helma, and Steve introduce themselves and we do a bit of silliness. That full-length audio interview will play in the audio podcast.

Here’s the video from Peter’s product review where you can see the product in action. You can find Peter on Twitter at https://twitter.com/peterboodts

NC #618 Atlantic on Specific Musical Anhedonia, DTNS Women in Tech, Printers are Jerks, D-Link Omna Cam, Second Sight Argus Prosthetic Eye

We’ll have one more NosillaCast before we go off on our grand adventure to the Galapagos Islands and Machu Picchu, and while we’re gone please send in some audio reviews for Allister and Bart (email addresses in the show notes. I brag shamelessly about an article in the Atlantic about me and other people with specific musical anhedonia. I was on the Daily Tech News Show at a href=”http://www.dailytechnewsshow.com/dtns-2984-fintech-fish/” target=”_blank” rel=”no opener”>DTNS #2984 entitled “Fintech != fish” talking about what it was like to be a woman in engineering and tech for 35 years. I’ll tell a tale of how Bart and I cracked the code on my jerk of a printer using our knowledge of subnets and such, then I’ll tell you about the first HomeKit compatible indoor security camera, the D-Link OmnaHD. Then we’ll hear about a prosthetic implant that allows people with retinal degradation to see crude shapes, the Argus from Second Sight.

NC #600 WWII Letter, HomeKit, The Printer is a Lie, 3D Touch, Security Bits

600th poster from georgeOn this 600th episode of the NosillaCast, I included the same audio from Chit Chat Across the Pond, which was the dramatic reading of a letter from my father to his family during World War II. Then we’ll discuss why I think the printer is a lie, and I’ll try to convince you that 3D Touch is more useful than you might think. Bart is back with Security Bits.

The Printer is a Lie

Printer no scanWe live in amazing times, don’t we? It’s 2016 and I can do a FaceTime video call with my baby grandson a hundred miles away… while I’m out on a walk. My phone can take panorama pictures. I can turn my lights on and off when I’m not even home. One of my best friends lives in Ireland and I get to talk to him a couple times a week. I have access to all world knowledge through the internet.

But guess what I can’t do? Print inside my house.
