NC #716 Here Comes the Bus, Cannonball Speaker, DoubleTake, reMarkable, DFree, Hive Link, Security Bits

In this mega-show, we’ve got six awesome interviews from CES. We’ll hear about a school bus tracking system called Here Comes the bus, we’ve got a Bluetooth speaker shaped like a ball from Cylo that you can play with in the pool, a set of binoculars that could change the whole concept, a tablet just for taking notes that feels like real paper called reMarkable, a sonogram device to tell when your bladder is full called Free, and a system designed to help care for loved ones who might need a little help called Hive Link. After that, we’ve got a giant episode of Security Bits with Bart Busschots.

Hi, this is Allison Sheridan of the NosillaCast Apple Podcast, hosted at Podfeet.com, a technology geek podcast with an EVER so slight Apple bias. Today is Sunday, January 27, 2019, and this is show number 716. We have a WHOPPING big show today, with lots of great interviews and Security Bits. We’d better get started right away.

But wait, before we get started, I want to talk about the live show for next week. Next Sunday is Super Bowl Sunday and we tend to get a much smaller audience than usual because of it. I think I’d like to go to a Super Bowl party and do the live show on Monday instead, if that’s ok with you guys. However, because of circumstances I’ll explain later, there’s a chance it will be delayed until Tuesday. High probability of Monday though so don’t lose sleep over it, ok? In any case, the show will be produced a day late, but not a dollar short!

Now let’s get started!

Chit Chat Across the Pond

This week’s Chit Chat Across the Pond is of the Lite variety and we have recurring guest Shai Yammanee back, but this time not to talk about photography, videography or performing as he has in the past. Shai recently decided to remove Facebook from his phone (he still accesses it from his computer) and I wanted to have him on to find out why and also to explore this whole movement of people getting out of social media. We talk about the repercussions for “normal” people but also we learn about how important Instagram is for employment for performers. We talk about how social media makes us feel and what we would lose if we left.

You can find Chit Chat Across the Pond Lite in your podcatcher of choice and of course you can always listen right at podfeet.com.

This first interview isn’t for something you will ever buy, but it’s an interesting concept.

CES 2019: NexOptic DoubleTake – Binoculars Reimagined

CES 2019: reMarkable Digital Notepad

CES 2019: DFree Wearable Incontinence Monitor

I know that interview might have made some people uncomfortable but it was one of my favorite things I saw at CES, It’s solving a real problem for people and giving them dignity back. How can that not be the best thing ever?

This next interview is about a service that also can help to keep people living independently. While I was doing this interview I missed something really important. There are no cameras involved in this product and service. I don’t want to ruin the story here but keep that in mind.

CES 2019: Hive Link Connected Home Care

Patreon

I bet you wish you could hear a handful of ads in the middle of the NosillaCast and Chit Chat Across the Pond, right? Maybe pre-roll ads that went on for 20% of the length of the show. Maybe you wish the ads were for men’s underwear or men’s razors or any of the other male-related ads that seem to be running on tech podcasts. No? You wouldn’t? Well there’s a reason we don’t have ads around here and it’s because of the fine folks who have chosen to go over to podfeet.com/patreon and pledged a weekly dollar amount to help fund the costs of making the show. If you like having an ad free show and you get value from the work we do here, consider becoming a Patreon yourself. We’ll now return you to your regularly-scheduled program.
