The show isn’t too long this week, but it’s action packed. We’ll start with a conversation about what surprised Steve and me about HomePod. Then we’ve got Steve in front of the microphone (and camera) with an interview from CES with Fortem about their Drone Killing radar. I’ve got an interview with OWC at CES about their wicked fast Thunderbolt 3 Storage and their docks. Then I’ll tell you about how we finally broke down and installed a smart lock – the August Smart Lock Pro + Connect. Back to CES and we’ll talk to Guardzilla with their 360 security camera. We’ll wind up the show with a review of the Belkin Valet Power Pack that charges both your iPhone and your Apple Watch with a built-in Apple Watch charger puck.
Hi, this is Allison Sheridan of the NosillaCast Apple Podcast, hosted at Podfeet.com, a technology geek podcast with an EVER so slight Apple bias. Today is Sunday, February 11, 2018, and this is show number 666. Ok, that kinda gave me the heebie jeebies just to say. I wanted to skip over 666 and jump right to 667 but Steve wouldn’t let me. I don’t know what the big deal is, last week I mistakenly said it was episode 645, and ONLY TJ noticed (or at least only TJ pointed it out), so evidently my numbering is only for my entertainment anyway!
Chit Chat Across the Pond
This week’s Chit Chat Across the Pond was Programming By Stealth installment 49B as promised. Last week I derailed Bart so long going over the homework that we never got to the real meat of the episode. In 49B Bart finally has time to get into some revision about objects (dictionaries), and arrays and how to access them. We’ve learned this all in bits and pieces along the way but it was great to have it all in one place. I actually think I understood it! We go off the rails again though during a mid-episode challenge he gives me. Maybe you’ll do better on it than I did. And then finally we start looking at how we can improve our Cellular Automata using the improvements we’ve been learning in ES6. The homework looks pretty involved, so I told Bart he’s not allowed to give us any homework next week when we hit episode 50. It should be a celebratory episode I think!
In a rare moment in front of the camera, Steve interviews Timothy Bean about the Fortem TrueView Radar for Drones at CES.
This next interview was a lot of fun. The CEO of OWC is Larry O’Connell, and he’s super geeky and smart. Even though I had a chance to interview him, I chose to interview Andrew Gerth instead. The reason this was so fun is that Larry could not resist helping in the interview, correcting Andrew, turning the product right side up for the video and more. Anyway, let’s hear about what OWC had to show off at CES.

You guys have been rocking the Patreon support this week! Both Jonathan Weinman and Jack Carr went to podfeet.com/patreon, and signed up to pledge a small dollar amount to help support the shows here at Podfeet Productions. This generosity shows that they see value in the shows we produce, and they want to give value back for it. I can’t thank you folks enough for your support, it means a great deal to me.
