NC #698 Series 4 Watch Sizes Compared, How Not to Buy Apple Products, First Impressions, Security Bits

This week I’ll bring you all the maths on how to compare the different Apple Watch sizes. Then I’ll tell you how I managed to find the worst way possible to order new Apple gear (hard to believe it but I outdid myself). Then Bart Busschots is back with Security Bits were he tells us about the cold boot attack, Apple’s Anti-Fraud Trust Score, and the EU Copyright Act Amendments.

Hi, this is Allison Sheridan of the NosillaCast Apple Podcast, hosted at Podfeet.com, a technology geek podcast with an EVER so slight Apple bias. Today is Sunday, September 23, 2018, and this is show number 698.

Chit Chat Across the Pond

This week in Programming By Stealth, Bart Busschots and I spend a fair amount of time going over the homework challenge from PBS 62. The nuances combined with some refresher on how the pieces fit together was something I really needed so hopefully I wasn’t alone. The new part of the episode is dedicated to the all-important Bootstrap Button. We’ll learn how to turn things into buttons and why you might want to do that, and we’ll learn how to make Button Toolbars which are really slick and pretty. We don’t have new homework for this week but if you’re like me you need time to properly finish last week’s homework.

You can find this episode at podfeet.com or in your podcatcher of choice.

How Not to Buy New Apple Products & First Impressions

Patreon and Amazon

As you’re playing with your new Apple toys, or if you’ve got older Apple toys and you want to dress them up to feel like new, perhaps instead of paying the Apple tax you might want to check out all of the iPhone cases over on Amazon. I just found a really interesting Spigen Slim Armor case for iPhone 7 and 8 that has a secret hidden compartment that slides open on the back to carry your ID and credit card it’s got 2,329 reviews and 4.5 stars!

Maybe $50 for a watch band from Apple just seems like silliness. Amazon has a plethora of knock-off watch bands that look pretty good. The soft nylon loop is only $10 from Yunsea for example. Sure it might not last really long, but guess what? Both Steve and my $40 silicone iPhone X cases both fell apart at less than a year old!

I put a bunch of Amazon affiliate links in the shownotes to fun ways to dress up your new OR old devices and save a lot of money. If you use those links to start your search for the perfect band or case, a small percentage may go to help support the show.
