I got to co-host Daily Tech News Show this week. I’ll explain why one Logitech Crayon might be better than 2 Apple Pencils. We’ll do a deep dive into the bits vs. Bytes that might make your brain hurt. Then we’ll finish off with a review of the GOSPACE Supercharger.

Hi, this is Allison Sheridan of the NosillaCast Apple Podcast, hosted at Podfeet.com, a technology geek podcast with an EVER so slight Apple bias. Today is Sunday, April 28, 2019, and this is show number 729.

Chit Chat Across the Pond

This week’s Chit Chat Across the Pond was starring Kaylee Dayo, the host of the Zettai Geek Dayo podcast. She’s also an English teacher in Japan. But she doesn’t just whip out a dusty old grammar book and drone on about when to use a gerund! She has mad programming and maker skills and she puts them to use in engaging the children. She has reproduced 1980s TV game shows all written in JavaScript, and then hacks old iPhone 4s to be used as game controllers. It’s a terrific conversation that often goes off the rails and her enthusiasm for the games and her respect for the children she teaches is infectious.

You can find Kaylee’s tech podcast in your podcatcher of choice as Zettai Geek Dayo or go to www.platypuspodcasts.com and you can find this episode of Chit Chat Across the Pond Lite in your podcatcher of choice, or on Podfeet at CCATP #591 — Kaylee Dayo on Building JavaScript Games to Teach English in Japan

Support the Show

You may have noticed that there are no ads in the NosillaCast. I don’t advertise for men’s razors, or men’s underwear, or men’s sock. Heck, I don’t even advertise for women’s things either. Instead, this show is entirely supported by you. There are a few ways to do that, and one of the ways is to become a Patron of the Podfeet Podcasts. The per show or per month pledges that you folks make really help me keep creating the shows by funding the gear and software I review for you here. This week I’d like to give a shout out to John Atwood who was already a patron but he chose to double his contribution to the show. I love this because it shows that he does find value in the show and felt that he wanted to contribute even more.

If you’d like to show, in a monetary way, that you get value from the show, please consider going to podfeet.com/patreon and sign up.

bits vs Bytes

This week on the Daily Tech News Show, Tom Merritt and Patrick Beja were talking about disk storage and they got tangled up in terminology of bits vs. bytes. After the show, I sent Tom an email correcting part of what he said. He let me know that he’d gotten a lot of email about it and then suggested that I write up an explanation of where he went wrong. I picked up the challenge and wrote the following article for him to point all of the people who were correcting him. After I do this bit, I’ll play the DTNS reaction to the article.

8 bits to a Byte

On the following day’s DTNS Tom promoted the article and I thought you’d like to hear his reaction and Sarah Lane’s, and also Just Robert Young’s reaction. Before you hear this though, I have to explain the comment that you’ll hear Justin make at the end. Quite a while ago, I admonished him after he made the error of saying, “so easy your grandmother could do it.” You know how I feel about that. Ok, enough preamble, let’s listen to their response to the article:
