In this week’s show we talk quite a bit about the tech behind the live show. I did a new diagram of how I broadcast my audio, Steve’s audio and my video to YouTube Live and to Alpha Geek Media and more. I created it with draw.io and you can see it at podfeet.com/blog/nosillacast-live/live-show-setup/. I made a 1 minute long video for Megan Moronne and Leo Laporte to talk about how the Smartbean from Antec can turn any headphones into Bluetooth, but my cat Ada sorta photo bombed it. I walk through the different methods of screensharing I use, including Skype, Messages and how adding QuickTime into the mix lets you include your iOS screens in the screen share. NosillaCastaways are becoming more fit and healthy because of our recent discussions and i read you a few anecdotes and tell you how even I upped my game because we’ve focussed on the tech. Bart Busschots is back with Security Bits too.
George from Tulsa is back with some ideas on what might be causing Denise’s high bandwidth usage. It’s a great list of things to check out. Denise comes back with a great success story on the issue and then a walkthrough of her recent upgrade of her Mac mini to an SSD with some great advice. I get a word in edgewise with these two and talk about how I added language support to Podfeet.com and how we FINALLY got our AppleTV working on hotel WiFi so Steve could watch the Olympics.
The grandbaby isn’t here yet, but we’re on the edges of our seats around here. In the mean time I found an app called 1Writer from 1writerapp.com that might help me write in Markdown on the iPad. I made a tutorial on how to upgrade the firmware on your Apple routers, in Dumb Question Corner we all about how to secure older hardware, Denise gives us a listener review of the Oktobud SM01-X7 Waterproof Bluetooth Earbuds, and I’ll tell you about Tunity to hear broadcast TV on your phone.
In this week’s show I’ll tell you about PencilClipz from RadTech that might help keep track of your Apple Pencil for you, I’ll answer a dumb question that ends with an explanation of how to share photos with iCloud Photo Sharing even for non-Apple users. I did a couple of thought pieces for the show – the first is about Uber and how it’s changing my world and then about how our illusory superiority affects our thoughts about self-driving cars.
I got to ask all my image editor questions of Bart Busschots and Antonio Rosario on Episode 33 of the Let’s Talk Photography podcast at lets-talk.ie/…. For my simple needs, Tree from topoftree.jp/… for only $12 in the Mac App Store is a fabulous outlining tool. Because of our fabulous community I learned about the amazing free text editor called CotEditor. We’re joined again by Bart Busschots for Security Bits.
I’ll talk about how Steve wearing an Apple Watch helped him come to my aid when I smacked my little punkin’ head on the ground, then I’ll tell you how to turn an old Mac or PC into a Chromebook for free with CloudReady from neverware.com.
