NC #754 Hackintosh, macOS Clean Install Tutorial, MacTech, Security Bits

We’ve got a great story of building a Hackintosh by Trevor Drover from Australia, I’ll tell you how hard and scary it was to do a ScreenCastsOnline video tutorial about why you might want to do a clean install on your Mac and how to actually do such a thing. Then I’ll regale you with tales of the MacTech conference and all the fun nerdy stuff I learned. Then Bart Busschots is back with another fun installment of Security Bits, within a given definition of “fun”.

Hi, this is Allison Sheridan of the NosillaCast Apple Podcast, hosted at Podfeet.com, a technology geek podcast with an EVER so slight Apple bias. Today is Sunday, October 20, 2019, and this is show number 754.

Chit Chat Across the Pond

This week’s Chit Chat Across the Pond was another installment of Programming By Stealth. Bart has been noticing that there are a few key features in JavaScript that haven’t ever really congealed for me and is circling back in hopes of firming them up. The other reason he’s going over these topics is that new options have been created since we first covered them. The first of these subjects is objects as dictionaries. I confessed to him recently that I’ve never successfully done a for loop on my own yet, so we slow down a bit during that part but we speed up again into what are actually more challenging topics. We had a lot of fun doing this episode (even when I was stuck!)

You can find this episode in the Programming By Stealth feed, or the full Chit Chat Across the Pond feed in your podcatcher of choice, or listen right at podfeet.com/…

Next week I promise I’ll be back with a fantastic Chit Chat Across the Pond Lite episode. It’s scheduled and planned and ready to record.

In 2011, Steve and I went on a Mac Mania cruise in Australia where I had the pleasure of teaching some of the classes. Leo LaPorte was the headliner, and he planned a tweetup in Sydney for his fans, so we tagged along. At the Tweetup we met a lovely gentleman named Trevor Drover and enjoyed chatting with him. He even brought us a bottle of wine as I recall so he was my friend for life.

He’s done a couple of audio reviews for us in the past, one about transferring a disk from an Apple ][e to a MacBook Pro, and one about the OWC Thunderbolt 2 dock in 2016. He’s back with a super geeky review. I’ll be quiet now and let you hear about his awesome adventure.

Support the Show

I was thinking on my walk today about the ways you can support the shows here. I encourage using Patreon and PayPal to support us financially, and Amazon Affiliate Links do a lot to help pay for the tools to make the shows too. But there’s another way to support the show that I rarely mention. If you haven’t ever reviewed the shows in iTunes, that’s a way to get more people interested in the content we create. More people means more voices to learn from in our social channels for the Podfeet Podcasts.

I know it sounds way old school to use iTunes since even Apple doesn’t use it for podcasting any more, but it’s the directory that everyone uses so it helps raise visibility for the shows you review there.

You can review the NosillaCast, Chit Chat Across the Pond, Chit Chat Across the Pond Lite, Programming By Stealth and Taming the Terminal all separately depending on which ones give you joy.

If you wouldn’t mind taking a few minutes to push some stars and write a note about why you like the shows, that would be really swell.
