NC #699 Tale of Two MacBooks, Nuke & Pave Mojave, Podcasts Filling Apple Watch, Fifth iPad Pro

Steve Davidson brings us his wonderful “Tale of Two MacBooks”. Then I’ll walk you through how I do a “nuke and pave”, also known as a clean install, of macOS Mojave. Claus Wolf brings us a warning about how podcasts can fill up your Apple Watch. I’ll tell you about a bizarre caps lock bug on Mojave. Finally I’ll regale you with the tale of how I had to return my 12.9″ iPad Pro – for those counting it’s my fifth under AppleCare.

Hi, this is Allison Sheridan of the NosillaCast Apple Podcast, hosted at Podfeet.com, a technology geek podcast with an EVER so slight Apple bias. Today is Sunday, September 30, 2018, and this is show number 699. Hey – that means next week is episode 700! This is kinda like watching your odometer go over a hundred thousand miles, watching the first company to go over $1Trillion – fun to watch but doesn’t really have any deep significance!

Chit Chat Across the Pond

This week I asked Matthias Keller to come on Chit Chat Across the Pond to try to explain the new social network Mastadon to me. Matthias and I met over on the Phileas Club this week when we were guests of Patrick Beja. The show was called The Phileas Club 114 – The Social Media Sickness. Anyway Matthias does his level best to explain Mastadon but I’m not sure I get it! In any case, you can listen to the show in your podcatcher under Chit Chat Across the Pond or Chit Chat Across the Pond Lite, or of course find it on podfeet.com.

Nuke & Pave Install of Mojave (AKA Clean Install)

2TB Samsung T5 SSD

After the great nuke and pave, I rewarded myself with a brand new 2TB Samsung T5 SSD. As I explained, my 1TB T3 from Samsung just isn’t big enough to do the job, since my internal disk is 2TB. I haven’t tested the T5 yet for speed but the T3 was awesome so I’m pretty excited about it. As Robb Dunewood would say, it cost “a grip” but they do have smaller disks. The 500GB is only $100. Oddly the 250GB version costs more so go for the 500.
