#545 Spinning Off Chit Chat Across the Pond, Macphun Photo Editing Tools, Tom Merritt on Self Publishing

I’ve decided to spin off Chit Chat Across the Pond as its own show, so stay tuned for a new feed. Macphun releases new extensions for Photos, Photoshop (Elements), Lightroom, Pixelmator and more. I take a deep dive into Intensify from Macphun for only $15 in the Mac App Store. On this week’s Chit Chat Across the Pond we’ve got Tom Merritt, fiction and non-fiction author over at tommerrittbooks.com to talk about self publishing and what his journey has been like to write his own books.

Clarify

Steve, Bart and I are collaborating on a super secret project right now that I’ll be able to tell you about hopefully as soon as next week. We’ve had a lot of work to do and Steve has been volunteering to help quite a bit which is awesome. He seems to have more patience for some things than I do. Anyway, I figured out how to do one part of the work that was pretty complicated but it was something we had to do over and over again. I asked Steve if he’d be willing to take it on, and he said yes. You know what I did, right?

I opened up Clarify and as I went through each step I just kept hitting command-shift-2 on each window, which takes a screenshot and drops it in sequence into Clarify. Then I went back through, put in an arrow here, a box there, and wrote a sentence or two on a few of the steps toe explain why they had to be done in that particular way. On one screen there were 7 things that had to be done, so I dropped in sequence numbers that auto-number themselves, and then made a numbered list in the text field of what to do.

I pushed the create PDF button, sent it over to Steve and guess what? He did not have ONE SINGLE question! He was able to follow along so easily because every screen was there. Whole thing took me maybe 10 minutes more than doing the steps and now he could work independently. No confusion, all joy. Especially the part where he did all the work!
